"On the 19 February 2009 CSCI carried out an unannounced inspection at Stafford Lodge. I am delighted to say that the subsequent report is very positive and supportive of the quality, caring service which we offer to our service users, with CSCI grading the home as "Good". As you might imagine, we are very pleased with this result, especially as it is the first inspection since the home opened in September 2008. However, we are determined to continue to improve the service still further." Richard Smith, Managing Director, Homes Caring for Autism

"I am not surprised! What a delight to have such a confirmation of all the care, attention to individual needs and high standard of professional input by everyone at HFA." Social worker for autistic young man living at Stafford Lodge

The report can be accessed by visiting our Downloads Page, or CQC’s website.

Stafford Lodge is run as a family-style residential care home and has 4 large, fully en-suite bedrooms and a ground floor flatlet for semi-independent living arrangement.

After comprehensive refurbishment work, Stafford Lodge maintains standards of excellence for our residential care homes. There is substantial communal space for the service users including a newly created and completed games and recreation room and generous grounds. There are three separate garden areas: a lawned area, a patio with flower beds and a private garden for the ground floor flatlet. A newly built conservatory gives service users a large light and pleasant space in which to eat, pursue various activities or simply to relax.

The house has been fully rewired and re-plumbed with all-new heating and lighting fixtures and fittings, and meets or exceeds all health and safety specifications. There are television points to all rooms and the kitchen, and all sanitary ware and all flooring is newly fitted or supplied.

This level of refurbishment will not only continue to serve as the pattern for future homes but give the service users a comfortable, safe and fully equipped home for life - our aim and philosophy as a Company.

Apple Tree House
Berrow, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset

Apple Tree House

Located near the popular coastal town of Burnham-On-Se, this family style, four bed home opened in January 2006. Apple Tree House was refurbished to an excellent standard, in line with the philosophy of the company.

As with all our residential care homes there is a big emphasis on encouraging the service users to participate in lots of activities and to become part of the local community. We arrange a variety of activities on a daily basis to suit the needs and tastes of each individual.

The property has good-sized gardens as well as views of the golf course and beach. The beach itself is just a few minutes walk from the house, as are the local playing fields, shops and public house.

Holly Tree Cottage
Berrow, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset

Holly Tree Cottage

Our first residential care home, Holly Tree Cottage is a seven-bed home for young adults which has been open since March 2004. It provides a very 'homely' environment for seven young men, all in their late teens or early twenties, and is a hive of constant activity.

The home, situated next door to Apple Tree House, is a lively yet caring environment where residents are treated with respect and personal dignity. The local community is highly supportive.

The private rear garden is totally secure with areas of lawn, flowers and shrubs and we ensure that service users at Holly Tree Cottage can use the garden whenever they wish to, yet remain totally safe.
