All candidates receive a detailed application pack and the completed forms are reviewed and short listed by the Recruitment and Training team.

First interviews are extensive as we give information as well as going through a structured interview format. Our aim is to ensure that candidates are clear and enthusiastic about the high standards we set as a company and the rewards and challenges of the role itself.

Second interviews are with 2 people, a member of the Recruitment and Training team and a relevant manager, whether this is the manager for the home we are recruiting for or one from a different home within the company. We want to ensure, as far as we can, that not only is this the right job for them but also that the candidate will fit in with the existing staff team.

Successful candidates return again for a Job Acceptance meeting to ensure they fully understand the role and our expectations of them, have an opportunity to ask any more questions they may have and complete relevant documentation.

We do not allow new staff to commence working in any of our services until we have received two satisfactory written references and clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Our staff team tells us that it’s reassuring and inspires confidence knowing that all of their colleagues have been through this robust and structured process.

No one is recruited over a cup of tea and a biscuit!

A great deal of HCA recruitment is also done by word of mouth and recommendations.

Some recent examples are:

M worked at a leisure centre, and after seeing some of our young people being supported to go swimming, spoke to a member of staff. M applied for a Support Worker role, was accepted and started induction a few weeks later.

N has started working with us after being recommended by his friend K who has now worked with us for a year.

They join the several uncles, nephews and cousins who work across our Somerset and North Somerset homes.
